Music and Idols

“Sakura” by Naotaro Moriyama

Since it’s cherry blossom season, I just have to share this song.Β  This is the 2019 re-recording of Naotaro Moriyama’s hit song “Sakura”.Β  I remember when the original came out in 2003.Β  Normally I’m drawn to flashy music videos, and the original video for this song was even plainer than the remake (just Moriyama singing next to the piano, with a static camera), but the song was so beautiful, it caught my attention.Β  …

U-KISS fans just got some exciting news: Soohyun, Kiseop, and Hoon have joined a new agency, and U-KISS has been reborn!Β  Jun has his own agency and is busy with acting, so it’s unclear if he will be working with them.Β  But U-KISS is back!Β  I’m so happy that my favorite member Kiseop has rejoined the group!Β  I can’t wait to see what they will do next!Β  I missed them! …

Aya Matsuura in Kirin Gogo no Kocha CMs

I mentioned that Aya Matsuura was the reason I was inspired to try Kirin milk tea.Β  The first bottle I bought even had a little picture of her on it!Β  She did many commercials for the Gogo no Kocha bottled teas. Since I’m feeling nostalgic, here are some of my favorites!

This one makes me go, “Ah…. Japanese idols….”Β  So cute and silly.Β  It’s 3 o’clock!Β  Time for afternoon tea!

Takako Uehara: My First Idol??

Ok, I’ll be super honest here… I was probably only into J-pop group SPEED as much as I was because I was a huge fan of Takako Uehara.Β  She was not a main vocalist and had hardly any lines, but I loved her style and thought she was really pretty.Β  Despite being a weak singer, she actually had a fairly successful solo career and was the first member of SPEED to release a solo album!Β  I loved her aesthetic, and the style of her songs suited her soft voice well.Β  She also released photo books, so I guess she was more like an idol than the other members.Β  Her first album was the first J-pop CD I ever bought (they are not cheap)!Β  I bought all of her albums and photo books and even a calendar from Japanese bookstores like Kinokuniya.Β  I miss the days when you could walk into one of those bookstores and they had all the newest J-pop CDs, as well as a preview station where you could watch short versions of the music videos.
