I was sad when I’d heard K-pop group BOYFRIEND had disbanded in 2019.Β Boyfriend was one of the groups I liked that I never got a chance to see live. But apparently they’re back now under a new label as BF!Β Oh hey, one of the twins grew his hair out.Β
Before I really got into K-pop, I listened to a couple of Korean groups, but only in Japanese.Β I had a few friends who were getting more into K-pop, and we had started going to concerts together.Β One day, I helped one of these friends move a large new TV into his entertainment room, and we decided to inaugurate it by playing music videos, so he put on BOYFRIEND’s “Janus”.
I thought it was pretty cool, and the next couple times I went to visit my friend, he’d show me K-pop videos, always starting with “Janus”.Β I liked the songs and the creative dance routines, but I noticed the videos he was showing me were all dark, edgy, and angry, so I asked him to show me some happy songs.Β He showed me some B1A4, and I did come to love B1A4 as well, but I’m not sure why he didn’t just show me BOYFRIEND’s first video…. “Boyfriend.” I know he had this video in his collection.
I mean, LOOK HOW CUTE THEY ARE!Β By the way, this was around the time I was coming to terms with the fact that I am getting older, and of course I’m now way older than most idols, so it’s ok to like the “cute kids”.Β Just sayin’, haha.Β My favorite member is Youngmin, the twin in white in “Janus”.Β That should not be any sort of surprise.
BOYFRIEND also released several songs in Japanese.Β “MY LADY ~Fuyu no Koibito~” is one of my favorites.Β It’s pretty cheesy, but they are just so precious.Β “Be my shine ~kimi wo hanasanai~” is another favorite.Β They’ve outgrown this image a bit… after all, it’s been more than 10 years since they made their debut.Β I’m looking forward to seeing more of what BF will release now that they’re back.
