Eriya – Escaflowne: The Movie

First worn: Anime Expo 2002

Escaflowne: The Movie had shown in theaters earlier in 2002, so my friends put together a masquerade group for Anime Expo.Β  I wasn’t really a fan of Escaflowne, and Eriya and Naria hardly even appear in the movie, but the twin catgirls were an obvious choice for my sister and me, who were known as the Neko Twins.Β  They were pretty and sang a pretty song, so why not? Sadly the costumes were rushed and sloppy, and we never did get around to finishing the details.Β  We always meant to get back to these and fix them up, but again, as minor characters that we didn’t particularly care for, it just wasn’t a priority and eventually got abandoned.Β  We only wore these once.

I admit this costume was pretty fun to wear.Β  I do love catgirls!Β  And I enjoyed the long arm drapes.Β  I feel lucky that my orange face paint matched the color I dyed my bodysuit to so well.Β  My sister had to mix two colors.Β  We clearly didn’t bother with coloring our hands and feet.Β  The shoes are gold because we had no reference for them at the time and I thought gold shoes would be pretty (they are black).Β  These are one of my favorite pairs of shoes, though, so I’m glad we used them!Β  Also, I’m pretty sure I had intended to paint spots on my bodysuit, but since we ran out of time, I grabbed the leftover black stretch satin from the tops and belts, cut random spots out, and slapped them onto our suits while we were wearing them.Β  It didn’t turn out nearly as horrible as I was afraid it would!
