I’ve always loved long hair and wanted to grow mine super long, but unfortunately with my hair’s fine, frizzy texture, it’s hard to grow out. The bleaching doesn’t help, so I’d been keeping my hair a little shorter after I started coloring it. Then the pandemic hit, and salons closed… but even when they reopened, I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks, because I was pregnant. Also, with nowhere to go and no one to impress, I decided to just let my hair go (the benefits of a low maintenance hairstyle, aside from my bangs, which I cut myself). It’s been almost two years since I’ve had my hair cut! But the ends are getting pretty damaged, so I’m starting to think a cut would be really nice. Maybe at two years I’ll do it. “Getting a haircut” isn’t exactly high on my list of things to do when I finally have time to myself these days.
I recently colored my hair again for the first time since my son was born. I kept it simple and used one color, Joico Color Intensity Magenta [affiliate link]. This is the longest lasting pink hair color I have ever used. Pinks are notorious for fading really fasting, sometimes only after two or three weeks, but this color will last months. The trade off is that it also bleeds more than any other color I’ve used. Unfortunately I think the two are related, because I experienced the same thing with Pravana’s blue (bled a lot, lasted months). For now, it’ll be nice not to have to worry about re-coloring my hair for a while.
Normally at two years I would have my color redone at the salon, because the bleached part would have grown out and been cut off, but this time it hasn’t been cut off yet. We’ll see how much I lose once I finally get my hair cut. Here’s how my hair looked just before I colored it. I was actually really enjoying the blond, too, but I missed having pink hair. Also, once my hair grew out long enough that there was more dark than blond, the contrast looked a little harsh.
This picture was from April, but it’s the latest picture I have of the back of my hair. You can still see hints of pink in some spots even though it had been 9 months since I’d last colored my hair (again, the Joico Magenta)! I noticed that my hair got wavier while I was pregnant. I used to be able to straighten my hair just by blow drying it with a brush, but now I have some stubborn wavy spots on the back of my head that are hard to straighten. You can see a few spots here where it’s just… not behaving. So most of the time now I only style my bangs and leave the rest wavy. I mean, usually that’s all I have time for, anyway…. (Mom life.)
(Update: It took about three years to grow out, but my hair did return to normal. I still don’t style it very often, though.)
