When I was young, I spent a lot of time drawing and writing stories. I have always loved comics and animation, and got into anime and manga as a teen. In the late 90’s and early 2000’s I was active in the online comic and anime fan art community. My first web site, published in 1998, was dedicated to my own fan art and original comics. When I went to my first anime convention in 1999, part of the reason was to meet some of my online art friends.
I learned a lot of tips and techniques from my art friends, many of whom went on to become professionals. I myself am only trained in fashion illustration, and I’m terrible at backgrounds, but I enjoy drawing as a hobby. My favorite tools for drawing and coloring are Sakura Pigma Microns for line work (I usually use black, but colors can be great for a softer look), Japanese Copic Sketch markers, and Faber-Castell Polychromos color pencils. I used to use Adobe Photohop and Corel Painter with an older version of the Wacom Intuos tablet for digital coloring, but I haven’t done that in many years. [Affiliate links]
