Virtual Tea Party March 2020

White dress with rose headband

Back in March of 2020, when things were just starting to shut down due to the pandemic, the Tea Party Jus Cuz Society had a tea party planned for the end of the month.  We were finally going to go to Huntington Gardens (I’ve never been), so we were really looking forward to it, too!  Everything closed, and our tea party got cancelled, so we thought we would just have a tea party at one of our houses instead.  Then the stay-at-home orders came, and we said, well heck… let’s just have a virtual tea party!  Later I saw other groups starting to host their own virtual Lolita tea parties as well.  Great minds think alike! 😉

At that point I was already 4 months pregnant, and none of my Lolita dresses fit any more.  I ended up wearing the simple white dress I had made for an Aristocats Marie Disneybound along with the rose headband I’d made for my wedding (it has gotten a lot of use!).  Necklace from 1928 Jewelry [affiliate link].

White Dress and Rose Headband

Fresh curls, tee hee.  My hair styles easily but doesn’t last very long.

Royal Albert "New Country Roses"

I pulled out some of my Royal Albert china for the occasion.  This is “New Country Roses” in pink and white.  I also have the pink teapot, sugar, and creamer set, the sandwich tray (which I use to hold the sugar and creamer), and the Cheeky Pink three-tier cake stand.  They go well with my table cloth! 😉 [affiliate links]

Strawberry Tea

Normally I like black tea, but I went with white tea that day because I was trying to avoid too much caffeine (pregnancy).  My sister had picked this up at the Northern California Renaissance Faire, along with their Peach Bellini tea, and they are both delicious!  Spice Traders Teas sells at Renaissance fairs on the US West Coast, but you can also buy their tea online!

Virtual Tea Party

As you can see, I’m not big on sweets at tea time.  I like to put plenty of sugar in my tea, and jam on my scones… but dessert is just too much for me!  For food, I didn’t have a chance to go shopping and just used whatever I happened to have on hand.  Luckily I had a box of berry scone mix from Trader Joe’s (I haven’t seen it since, I’m so sad) and some savory puff pastries from Costco.  I made egg salad and tuna salad sandwiches.  Normally I like to make smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches.  We had plenty of food.  My husband and I were stuffed and didn’t finish everything!

My friends and I did a video chat and showed off our teacups and food selections while we chatted.  It was fun, but I can’t wait to see everyone in person again for another tea party!
