Since I’ve clearly been absolutely terrible about posting the stuff I’ve worked on this year, here’s a quick summary of the costumes I made in 2018. As you can see, I’ve also been pretty terrible about making sure I get good pictures. It wasn’t a very active year for me, but also not my least active (that would be 2016). This year health and other issues kept me busy once again, so I decided to take it easy. I had two big projects, and two quick-and-easy projects. Note that I made zero Chihaya costumes this year. That there is the biggest shocker!
White Rose (Alice in Wonderland) – I was very happy to be included in my friends’ Flowers of Wonderland group at WonderCon and SDCC. It was like the dream costume that I never would have thought of myself, I got to be a giant rose! Making the paper rose hat was a fun and interesting challenge, too!
Opal Fairy Queen – When I heard Costume Con was going to be in San Diego this past year, I designed this original fairy costume as the ultimate everything-I-would-ever-want-in-a-costume costume: roses, blossoms, rainbows, crystals, long curly hair, iridescent fabric, full skirt, long train, fairy wings, fairy LIGHTS… sadly, though, I was not able to put as much detail as I wanted into this costume, and several parts of it remain unfinished. Hopefully one day I will finish it and get some good photos. But I can tell you that right now, it doesn’t much look like the original design. I still had a lot of fun making and wearing it though! I hand-colored sooooo many fabric flowers….
Maid Uniform – I decided to return to Fanimaid Cafe this year and needed a new uniform, so I took the opportunity to make Miyu’s maid uniform from Wake Up, Girls! (my only idol costume for this year… if it even counts). I never got around to taking photos of it styled as Miyu, though. For Cafe I wore different wigs and added my own accessories to it.
Alana (The Little Mermaid – Dapper Daughters of Triton) – My friend JestersLabyrinth Cosplay designed a whole set of Dapper Day outfits for Ariel and her sisters based on vintage sailor dresses and sailor suits. We ended up having the whole group plus Ursula for Disneyland’s fall Dapper Day weekend. I’m not a huge Disney person, and this was my first Dapper Day, but I enjoyed it, and everyone looked so cute!
Right now I’m working on a costume for Anime LA that I’m pretty excited about. I skipped out on a lot of anime cons this past year. Come to think of it, the only anime con I went to was Fanime! But I did go to WonderCon, Costume Con, SDCC, and Blizzcon, so it’s not like I didn’t go to any cons, it just worked out that way. I might plan something for WonderCon next year, but otherwise I think I’m going to lay low again for 2019 in terms of cosplay. What I actually need to do is work on getting more of my backlog up on this site! There are so many photos I haven’t shared with anyone yet~! ♥
