My Hair Colors for 2018!

Another thing I realized I never shared from this year was the progression of my hair color!  I started out the year with streaks of magenta, teal, and dark blue, which my lovely stylist did for me at my salon.  I really love how it turned out!  This was my absolute favorite of all the hair colors I’ve had.  However, it’s not easy or cheap to maintain, and I needed to save money this year, so I started coloring my hair at home.  I’m no expert, it was my first time coloring my hair myself.  I started simple.  After my pink/teal/blue faded significantly, I just put blue over the whole thing.  Since pink fades quickly, and blue tends to linger as a faded green, it was the “safest” choice.

But…. I really wanted pink, too, because pink is my favorite color.  I don’t bleach my own hair, I leave it to professionals since my hair is very fine and dark.  To minimize damage, I just let my color fade, and then put new color over it, since the color itself isn’t damaging.  I was a little concerned with how the pink would look over a faded green, but the pink was bright enough to cover it (it just came out a little muted).  As a total noob, I thought hard about what I could do to incorporate two colors when I can’t see the back of my head, and came up with this – blue on the top and pink on the underside!  I have pretty much settled on this as my “go-to color” and have been recoloring it like this for the past several months.  I have been using Adore’s Indigo Blue and Pink Fire [affiliate link].

This has worked out great for a few reasons.  For one thing, it’s easy to separate which part gets colored blue (the crown) and which part gets colored pink (everything below that), and easy to re-separate it again when it’s time to recolor.  Quick and fool-proof.  Even I can’t mess that up.  The color is also guaranteed to be evenly distributed around my head, assuming my hair hangs down straight… which I’m completely aware that it doesn’t, but you know, in theory, it prevents unevenness of color.  Also, since I was worried about how the pink would look, it seemed safer to put it on the bottom, where it would be partially covered up.  The first time, it came out as a dusty pink, but with each fade and recolor, it came out more pink.  So now I have fun peek-a-boo color hair!  As an added bonus, when I curl my hair, I curl the colors together and I still get that multi-colored streaked look that I like.

The colored section is about halfway grown out now (below my chin).  We’ll see how long it lasts before I decide it’s time to go back to the salon for another round of bleaching… and then maybe I’ll try something new!
