Christmas Trees!

In 2016 my husband and I bought our house in San Diego, and I was super excited to finally have my own Christmas tree!  Pre-lit artificial trees are amazing these days.  We got a 7.5 ft tree with RGB LEDs and a bunch of different color modes.  My favorite mode is twinkling color-changing rainbow.  We didn’t have a whole lot of ornaments that first year.  Our poor tree was blank on the other side!

For our big tree, my husband and I like to collect all kinds of different ornaments, including plenty of Hallmark video game and Star Wars ornaments, of course, but also just whatever cute, quirky, or pretty things we can find.  We are slowly growing our collection so that someday we can fill our whole tree!  Oh, and we don’t put tinsel on our tree because our cats would probably destroy it.

I have always been intrigued by aesthetic themed trees, so I thought I would get some mini trees so I could try some different styles.  I love white Christmas trees, so I got a mini pre-lit white tree and some colorful mini ornaments.  The lights on the tree were only white, so later I found a string of rainbow lights with white wires and added them to the tree, along with a color-changing star topper.

I found an iridescent white tree and an iridescent silver one, and I’ve started gathering pieces to make a white/pink/gold tree and a white/blue/iridescent one.  There are white wire lights with plenty of color options (including this pretty teal), mini ball ornaments in tons of colors (plus iridescent ones), and different color mini star toppers (although maybe I’ll go with a snowflake one for the blue tree), so you can easily make any color scheme you want!  For that matter, you can get mini trees in plenty of different colors too (smaller pink one here).  These pink lights with pink wire would look really cute on a pink tree!  Of course, if you want to get fancy with the lights, you can always get RGB LED fairy lights (I find this one easy to use with lots of color and flashing options).  Then there are the fun fiber optic trees… gosh, I’m going to have a whole forest on my kitchen island, I think.

I do also have a mini pink holographic Christmas tree which I bought many years ago.  It is pre-lit with pink lights.  I never really decorated it, but I did put a golden peacock on top.  Maybe I’ll try adding more gold ornaments to it!  I saw this really cute girly mini tree, and it inspired me to try adding gold roses and ribbon bows.

It’s been five years since we got our big Christmas tree, and we’ve collected a lot of ornaments since then, but we still haven’t had a chance to go all out decorating it.  In 2017 we adopted our cats, and Zertoo definitely tried to eat the Christmas tree when we pulled it out.  We had to set the tree up in my sewing room, where there wasn’t much space, and we didn’t bother decorating it much.  A few years later we tried putting the tree out again for a few days (without ornaments) to see if the cats had calmed down enough, and they actually mostly left the tree alone.  Now we have a toddler, though, and the best place to put the Christmas tree is in the family room, which is his play area.  The kiddo is already a handful to look after without a tree to protect, so we decided to skip this year too.  I’m sorry, little boy… I promise next year we’ll celebrate Christmas properly! 🙂
