The weekend before last, our Tea Party Jus Cuz Society went to The Tea House on Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano for some afternoon tea. Since I live in San Diego and most of my SoCal friends live in the LA area, this is a nice in-between spot for us to meet. The place is very cute, too. I liked the signs with mosaics using pieces of broken china. Although it is sad to think of all that broken china, it’s a great way to give them a second life.
I had the usual afternoon tea set, minus the dessert, because sugar in my tea and jam on my scones is already enough sweetness for me. It may seem odd given my aesthetics, but my tolerance for sweets is not very high. I need something savory to balance it!
The scones were heart shaped! ♥ They were blackcurrant scones, served with raspberry jam. The tea I chose was peach-apricot black tea. Peach black teas are usually my favorite. I also got four tea sandwiches and a small bowl of fruit. Each plate is decorated with a flower, which they say is edible, but I didn’t try it.
The great thing about this place is that you don’t have to get a tea set, there is also a regular lunch menu. My husband got a shepherd’s pie. It was all very good! This has definitely become one of our go-to places for tea.
