I have to admit, I’m a little obsessed. It should be no surprise that opal is my favorite stone, since I love rainbows and sparkles. I’ve always loved opals, but I think my “obsession” started when I found a bracelet that I loved and missed out on buying it.
It was a simple bracelet with exceptionally colorful synthetic opals alternating with pink sapphires. I kept coming back to the store to stare at it, and when I finally told myself, “I’m going to buy it as a Christmas gift to myself,” IT WAS GONE. *sigh* I feel like this happens to me a lot. Anyway, I’ve been on a mission to find “inspiring opal jewelry” ever since.
It’s surprisingly hard to find nice opal jewelry. I’ve heard it’s fragile and hard to work with, so I guess that’s why. A few years ago I did buy a set of simple opal heart jewelry that was part of a birthstone series. Just because I wasn’t born in October doesn’t mean I can’t buy it! (My birthstone is garnet, excuse me for not being excited.) I also have some flower-shaped opal earrings, a rose gold ring with a pink opal butterfly, and a Kendra Scott earring and necklace set (seriously, check out some of the other amazing rainbowy colors, too!) [affiliate links]. Gosh… why don’t I have any blue opal? I was obsessed with the color turquoise when I was a kid and loved blue opal. I should add some to my collection!
I also discovered that you can custom order jewelry from some of the major chain jewelry stores. Maybe someday I WILL get that opal and pink sapphire bracelet I’ve always wanted…. 🙂
