Fire Emblem Heroes

I was really excited when I logged in to Fire Emblem Heroes last night and saw the new banner – a new Ike!  And a Legendary Hero at that!  Because clearly, he’s the best. 😉  This is the third Ike, without any holiday gimmick.  I was already pretty excited about there randomly being a second Eirika.  Now if I could just turn this lousy summoning luck around…

While I’m on the subject of Fire Emblem Heroes, this is my MVP, and has been representing me since day one:

Fire Emblem Heroes - LindeLinde the Light Mage, from the first Fire Emblem game!  She was the second or third hero I summoned, and my first 5* unit!  I didn’t even restart the game for better summons.  I was happy because she’s cute (and pink), but I had no idea how lucky I was, because she’s also very powerful!  When I played Shadow Dragon, I tossed around the idea of adding her to my cosplay wish list, but ultimately lost interest.  Even though she’s perfectly my aesthetic, like most units in the early Fire Emblem games, she has almost no personality.  I have Heroes to thank for renewing my interest in her.  This redesign of her outfit is really cute, and she’s much more powerful than she was in Shadow Dragon.  I definitely want to cosplay this version.

I am a huge fan of the Fire Emblem series, and I’m really happy about the great reception Heroes has received.  It has brought attention back to the older games in the series.  The first Fire Emblem game I got was Path of Radiance, and I remember wondering back in those days why the game wasn’t more successful.  It had great characters, story, art, cinematics, and gameplay.  I guess it’s because the strategy genre is not very popular, although it’s one of my favorites.  I loved Path of Radiance so much that I anxiously awaited its sequel, Radiant Dawn.  It was actually the first game I ever bought on launch day. They are still my favorite games in the series.  Path of Radiance inspired me to pick up Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones as well, and since then I have kept up with the series except for Fates (which I did not purchase because I did not like Awakening, although perhaps I will get around to it some day).

Here are some more of my favorite Fire Emblem characters who have made an appearance in Heroes:

Fire Emblem Heroes - Caeda and Eirika

Caeda (Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon):  Marth’s sassy betrothed, the charming princess Caeda, one of my absolute favorite characters in all of Fire Emblem.  My biggest regret was that I never could summon a Bride Caeda, despite my best efforts.  The regular version is so weak, it does not do her justice.  I feel the same way about Marth, actually.  Brave Marth and Caeda please??  And Caeda better have her Wing Spear!

Eirika (Fire Emblem Sacred Stones):  When Eirika was added, I was super excited about how good she was and about her new ornate costume redesign, since she is another of my favorites.  Sadly, by the time I summoned her, she had already been surpassed by newer, better units, and mine was only a 4* summon anyway.  I have been throwing orbs like crazy at the current Sacred Stones banner with the new mage Eirika, but so far no luck.

Fire Emblem Heroes - Nephenee and Tiki

Nephenee (Fire Emblem Path of Radiance): This awkward sweetheart is one of my favorite Tellius characters, and I had high expectations for her.  After anxiously awaiting her arrival, I was a little disappointed she wasn’t better.  I love her art though!  I was lucky enough to summon her, but I don’t really use her.  It’s ok,  though, because Ike is amazing, and that’s what really matters.

Tiki (Fire Emblem Awakening): I love that they brought Tiki back for Awakening, but I actually prefer her cute baby dragon version.  I do not have young Tiki, but when I set up Fire Emblem Heroes on my husband’s phone for him to play (he is not familiar with the series), Tiki was the first 5* unit I summoned.  I have thus used up all of my young Tiki summoning luck, and will probably never get her. 🙁  I later summoned a Summer Tiki on my husband’s phone, and a 5* Nowi (another one of my favorites from Awakening, whom I also don’t have).  I actually didn’t even summon adult Tiki at 5*, I had to upgrade her myself.  She has proven to be useful, though.

Fire Emblem Heroes - Ike and Seth

Ike (Fire Emblem Path of Radiance):  Ike is the greatest Lord in all of Fire Emblem — thus the fans have spoken.  I would agree with that.  He’s the Lord of my favorite Fire Emblem games, the only Lord who isn’t royalty, and a strong, level-headed warrior.  I am pleased that Heroes has done him justice.  So far I only have Brave Ike, and he is one of my best units.

Seth (Sacred Stones): The dashing and reliable Silver Knight, the Jagen who isn’t a Jagen (the starter pre-premote, but unlike other pre-premotes, he’s actually one of the strongest units in the game).  I was excited about him, also because of Eirika x Seth, but… he’s just underwhelming.  Poor Seth.  I only have him 4*, so I don’t use him.  Can we have a redo?

Fire Emblem Heroes - Raven and Summer Gaius

Raven (Fire Emblem Blazing Blade): Raven is so fantastically grumpy, and in denial about being grumpy.  Ok, I admit, while I did like and use Raven in Blazing Blade, I came to like him more because of Heroes.  Raven was the first 5* green that I summoned, and he’s pretty good.  He helped me a lot… until I got Hector.  Sorry Raven, you will never beat Hector. 🙁 Just let it go….

Gaius (Fire Emblem Awakening): Summer Gaius was one of my luckiest summons – my first summon off the Ylissean Summer banner!  I do love Gaius.  He was my favorite character from Awakening.  A thief that’s not terrible?? Amazing!  Sadly, thieves are back to being terrible in Heroes.  The archer version is less terrible, and I have to say, the things he says are absolutely hilarious.

I’m always looking forward to new heroes being added to this game!  Fire Emblem Heroes is actually the only mobile game I play, because I don’t need more distractions and time-suckers, but I love Fire Emblem that much.  I hope someday my absolute favorite character, Leanne, will be added, but I’m not getting my hopes up… not for a while, at least.
