When it comes to Lolita fashion, rose prints are typically my favorite, but I’m also a huge sucker for cat prints. Angelic Pretty in particular has had a number of irresistibly cute cat prints over the years. Here are the ones I own:
Whimsical Vanilla-chan (2010)
When the Angelic Pretty USA store opened in November of 2010, they had the Whimsical Vanilla-chan series, including the pink JSK, and I was sorely tempted. I decided to be a “good girl” and resisted buying it. What was I thinking?! I definitely regretted it. The next time I went back, it was gone. Unfortunately, the limited nature of these dresses means that if you like something, you better snatch it up quick. Eventually I was able to get the Tiered JSK and Headbow in pink second-hand on EGL Community Sales. Years later I got the Vanilla-chan bracelet in pink on Lace Market.
Dolly Cat (2015)
Dolly Cat was the start of a series of cat prints that really felt like AP was targeting me and my wallet! Fluffy kitties with bows and hats and frills! I knew instantly that I wanted it. I was online and ready when it went up on AP’s site, and then… it sold out in an instant, and I didn’t get it. I even called the store and they said yeah, it sold out quick. Fortunately AP realized how popular it was and soon did a second release, and I got the jumperskirt in Sax. I also got the overknee socks in white. I didn’t realize there had been a plush bag to go with it, but I was able to get it on Lace Market.
Princess Cat (2016)
Princess Cat was another obvious must-have. For a moment I debated getting it in the Wine color for variety, but the princesses and cats theme, with the dapper tuxedo cats in top hats (so it’s like my husband and me!) was just so perfect, I felt like it would be a shame not to get it in my favorite color. Who cares if most of my wardrobe is pink? At least the style is a little different with the black accents. And this time, I saw the plush bag and got that too.
Romantic Cat (2017)
This time we have cats with roses and lace in pure pastel goodness. I love the dress even without the cats! That’s three years in a row of extremely girly cat prints. I got the OP in pink, no brainer. Sadly I was not able to snatch the matching plush pouch, and I have never even seen it on Lace Market.
Cat Tea Party (2012/2019)
Ahhh… Cat Tea Party. I remember when the set was first released in 2012. It was a special made-to-order set and hard to get. If I recall, you couldn’t order it on the AP USA web site. It was originally only sold at a special event in Japan, and then for a short while online and in stores in Japan. At any rate, apparently not very many were made, so it was very rare. People were buying it second-hand for thousands of dollars. Some friends asked me if I had the set, thinking it was right up my alley, and I told them no way! It’s super rare and expensive! Then AP re-released it in 2019, and I jumped on the opportunity to order the set in pink. It’s kind of a quirky cat print, and I’m happy I was able to add this iconic piece to my collection.
I skipped out on Fleur Cat in 2019 because I didn’t like any of the colorways. I had already ordered Cat Tea Party, anyway. It was a relief for me and my wallet.
