San Diego Cherry Blossom Festival

San Diego’s Cherry Blossom Festival is this weekend at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park!  The weather is really nice right now, too!  I wish I could go, but maybe next year. Here are some photos from 2016 when my husband and I went to check out the festival.  It was overcast that day, I think.

There were so many beautiful cherry blossoms!  I am used to going to the San Francisco Cherry Blossom Festival, which happens later in the month.  It’s a huge festival with a lot going on, but not typically a good time to actually see the flowers.  The Japanese Friendship Garden at Balboa Park has a very nice garden setup with a lot of trees.  The festival itself was smaller (not so many booths or performances), but there were lots of people just picnicking under the trees, like you would see in Japan.  It was very crowded!

A cute stream running through the garden.

There’s a winding path lined with trees that goes down into a little valley.  There were so many pretty blossoms even right along the path, but it was hard to get a nice photo because it was so crowded (hence the awkward cropping).  The cherry blossoms were very nice, but for enjoying the flowers it would have been better to go some other time when it’s less crowded.
